Diesel scandal still doesn’t let VW go!
The auto company faces severe penalties, and the company has now filed a lawsuit with the Washington Supreme Court. Volkswagen hopes for freedom at its highest.
Background: Volkswagen suffered a serious legal defeat against Ohio in June, which could lead to further penalties for systematic manipulation of exhaust gas in diesel cars.
Volkswagen sees claims by individual provinces and states such as Ohio have already been offset by the penalties and reparations the company had to pay for violating the US Clean Air Act. Several other US courts have reached this assessment in similar cases. Volkswagen has already booked costs of more than €30 billion over the emissions scandal – mostly for fines and compensation payments in the US.
However, it is unclear whether the US Supreme Court will handle the case. Ohio is also one of many legal scenes where VW is still grappling with the legacy of the diesel issue.
