Frenchman Charlie Dalin won the New York Fendi Solo Transatlantic Race. He reached the finish line shortly before midnight on Saturday. Hamburg sailor Boris Herrmann has the best chance of reaching the finish line in second place on Sunday.

Dalin sailed to the finish line on France's Atlantic coast at 11:45pm local time on Saturday night. It took 10 days, 3 hours and 44 minutes to cover the 3,200 nautical miles from New York to Les Sables-d'Olonne with Macif.

For Dalin it was the first solo Atlantic crossing victory of 2021, winning the Transat Jacques Fabre West with Yann Ellis.

Hermann was in second place with Malizia Seaexplorer on Sunday morning (10am) and was comfortably ahead of his pursuers. There is still a good 100 nautical miles to reach the hamburger's destination, which should arrive at Les Sables-d'Olonne in the afternoon.

The race was characterized by unpredictable winds at times, which led to different strategies. Herrmann chose a northerly route in which he initially lost ground, but then made great use of good winds and was able to sail far ahead. Dalin has been traveling south significantly.

After the Transat CIC a month ago, the New York Vendée is the final acid test for Herrmann and the other sailors in the Imoca class before the marquee event of the year: the Vendée Globe, which starts in November. Hermann finished second in Transat.
