Air Malta has been in losses for years. The island nation’s government wants to save the national airline through a restructuring and a final capital injection of 290 million euros. But the project must first be approved by the European Union.

It has already drawn up a plan B in case Brussels refuses. It includes Air Malta is dissolved and a new national airline is formed. And the government in the capital, La Valletta, appears to have already embraced the idea.
