Bochum. The City of Bochum is creating a secure parking space for bicycles at the main train station: in the future, 60 parking spaces will be available in three new communal garages on Buddenbergplatz. Seats can be reserved on the platform www.DeinRadschloss.de It can be booked for short and long term via the BOGESTRA mom app. Reserving a parking space costs one euro a day, five euros a week, ten euros a month – and if you want to rent it out for a whole year, you can do so for €70.
City planning official, Dr. Marcus your cool. “Exactly such incentives are needed to create a mobility shift towards an environmentally and climate-friendly transport mix.” Strengthening the cycling infrastructure at Buddenbergplatz is also an option in the future, as the square will become the future “hub” for the cycle motorway on its route through the city centre.
The design of the garages is also climate sensitive: half of the roof area is equipped with a photovoltaic system that provides the required electricity, and the other half is planted with greenery. The construction, which cost around €235,000, is funded almost entirely by subsidies from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Communal garages complete the width of the bike station at the front of the station. It is also the staff of the bicycle station who take care of the maintenance and control of the facility.
