Hong Kong. Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), a shipping company of Hong Kong-based Orient Overseas International, provides shipping by rail to Kaliningrad and the east coast of the United States. On August 4, the first multimodal container shipment left Xian in China.
With the new product, OOCL wants to meet with its customers to provide reliable and sustainable transportation in the current challenging environment. The now-launched offer includes a block train service between Sion and Kaliningrad, an Ooty shipping link to Bremen and further shipping to various ports on the east coast of the United States.
First connection via land route
According to the OOCL, this is the first connection between China and North America using the Asia-European land bridge and the Atlantic. In doing so, the company wants to avoid the current high volume of traffic through the U.S. West Coast and the Panama Canal. The new route ensures OOCL’s ability to adapt quickly to unforeseen circumstances. At the same time, the company highlights the integration between OOCL and OOCL logistics demonstrated by the new program. (Ms.)
