Tesla has to recall nearly half a million Model 3 and Model S cars to workshops in the United States.

According to the NHTSA, 356309 Model 3s have been observed due to a problem with the rear camera. According to NHTSA, opening and closing the trunk lid can cause the rear camera to malfunction over time.

A look over the shoulder helps

Accordingly, all Model 3 (see photo display) from model years 2017 to 2020 are ordered to workshops under recall code “21V00D000”. The NHTSA also declared that a camera malfunction increases the risk of a collision, but that the driver can continue to operate the vehicle “by looking over the shoulder” or “using the rearview mirror.”

In the case of the Tesla Model S, US authorities also ordered a recall (code: “21V00B000”). Here, the front trunk lid (Frunk) of 119,009 models from 2014 to 2021 can be opened, obstructing the driver’s view. In cars, the luggage compartment lock was misaligned, which meant that the second safety lock was not engaged.

Lots of recalls at Tesla

Tesla has suffered a slew of different model recalls in the past. The most recent technical issue was the potential for faulty emergency braking on the Model S, 3, X, and Y. Previously, problems with the Model 3 and Model Y with a physical defective wishbone front suspension were known. At the beginning of 2021, the company had to order nearly 158,000 older Model S and Model Xs to workshops due to a faulty touchscreen. The Federal Motor Transport Authority in Flensburg has also become active here. In China, too, there have been problems with nearly 300,000 Tesla Model 3 and Y models with cruise control malfunctions.

In the US Consumer Report, Tesla took the penultimate position in the 2021 Quality Rating.
