Munich: This is Lufthansa's fleet of Airbus A380s this summer

The German airline will soon return its sixth Airbus A380 to service. An overview of giant aircraft and their flight paths for next summer.

Lufthansa still has eight Airbus A380 aircraft and all of them will return to service. The last one is currently in storage at Teruel Airport in Spain. It's the D-AIMA, which is almost 15 years old and is the German airline's oldest jumbo jet.

The 14.5-year-old D-AIMB aircraft has been at Lufthansa Technik in Manila, Philippines since the beginning of June. The plane will receive major maintenance there over the next few months.

Superjumbos currently fly on USA routes only

The 13.5-year-old D-AIMH has already returned from the Philippines. It is currently being prepared to begin operations in Frankfurt and will then be the sixth Airbus A380 that Lufthansa will fly from Munich this summer.

The other five are: D-AIMN and D-AIMM (both about 9.5 years old), D-AIML and D-AIMK (both about 10.5 years old) and D-AIMC which is just over 14 years old. D-AIMC is currently flying to New York (flight LH 410). Other jumbo jets serve routes to Boston (LH424), Washington (LH414), and Los Angeles (LH452).

Airbus A380 receives new business class

According to Lufthansa, New York, Boston and Washington will no longer be served by A380 aircraft in the winter of 2024/2025, but rather by Airbus A350 or A340 aircraft, while Los Angeles remains a destination for A380 aircraft. In turn, LH772 Bangkok, currently an A350 flight, will become an A380 flight in the winter. Delhi LH762 has been announced as the A380's destination for summer and winter, but the Airbus A340-600 is currently flying there.

Lufthansa's A380 aircraft have 509 seats: eight in first class, 78 in business class, 52 in premium economy, and 371 in economy class. In the future, the double-decker aircraft will have a new business class that will provide all passengers with access to the aisle. “In the second half of 2025, the first Airbus A380 will be on the road with a new business class,” Lufthansa President Carsten Spohr said in March about the timeline for the conversion.
