The Austrians are seventh in unfamiliar terrain

Sep 12, 2023 | (rsn) – Gregor Mühlberger (Movistar) has moved from assistant to points provider for his team, a role he has already assumed for his Spanish team at the Tour of Britain with his win of the day at Winterberg in the Tour of Germany. The 29-year-old secured the best result for his team as he actually started the race as Gonzalo Serrano’s back-up.
“It went very well,” the Austrian, who still does not have a contract for next year, told radsport-news.com. No stranger to being a strong mountain rider on the terrain of Great Britain, his country’s reigning road champion showed himself to be the best in the world, 23 seconds behind winner Vaud van Aert (Jumbo – Wisma). End of eight days.
“It’s not my terrain,” laughed the Austrian, who again demonstrated his strong form: “The legs are good, but not designed for such a short and steep climb. “So it’s been a very difficult week for me,” he added.
After a persistent and serious illness, Mühlberger suffered from meningitis in 2021, the Austrian returned to winning ways in his third year in Spain, winning a stage of the Tour of the Alps in April, becoming the road champion. At the end of June and a few weeks ago Deutschland won the queen status of the tour.
