In Burgenland near the Neckenmarkt, the fourth edition of the Blaufränkischland Rally took place. The competition marked the beginning of the Austrian ARC Championship. 68 teams were first-class to begin with.

From MSC Freilassing, the teams Florian Auer / Elke Irlacher, Franz Auer junior / Petra Chemnitz and Franz Auer senior / Anna Maria Willberger all took to the track with their Mitsubishi EVO. In great weather, they did eight special stages over a distance of 89 kilometres. About 50 percent of the roads were unpaved, which was the biggest challenge, as drivers were sometimes traveling at full speed. For this reason, tire damage is inevitable. The Auer/Irlacher and Auer/Chemnitz teams weren’t spared either.

On the 14-kilometre special stage, Auer sen. Shortly after the start, first and second gear were no longer available, which had a particularly negative effect on the time. Because of the new regulations, safety tanks had to be fitted to Auer/Irlacher and Auer/Chemnitz, which sometimes caused engine misfires at longer distances due to a brief fuel shortage.

The results were still impressive: the Auer/Irlacher duo finished eighth overall and second in their class. Auer/Chemnitz came in 23rd, and Auer/Willberger occupied the midfield position.
