Moderna builds the mRNA platform in the UK

The new facility will have a total capacity of 250 million cans per year and will create about 150 jobs. Although construction is slated to begin in early 2023, the exact location of the new facility has yet to be announced. According to the Financial Times in February The new factory could be built in the so-called “Golden Triangle” between the main university locations of London, Cambridge and Oxford, where the life sciences sector in particular continues to grow.

In addition to the Covid-19 vaccines, the new platform will give the British public “access to future vaccine candidates against respiratory viruses,” explained Moderna CEO Stephen Bansell, adding that the British government wants to significantly accelerate the global response to potential future pandemics.
