The German suddenly is one of the faces of the American football boom!
Former Herta talent Hani Mokhtar (27) climbed to the top ten among the highest paid stars in the MLS. BILD KNOWS: The playmaker has signed a new four-year contract with his club Nashville SC plus an option for another year, and he’s now raising between three and four million dollars a year. Huge salary by American standards.
Mukhtar’s Unusual Career Path: In 2015 he left Hertha BSC as a failed talent. After intermediate stops Benfica Lisbon, Salzburg and Brondby, Nashville paid three million euros for it in 2020. Since then things have gone uphill. Highlights: Last season, Mukhtar led Nashville to the play-off semi-finals by scoring 19 goals and making 10 assists. He himself was among the five nominees for the best professional of the season.
Recently, there have also been frequent inquiries from the Bundesliga, as Mukhtar himself confirmed in a BILD interview: “There is interest from Germany. But Nashville is my first point of contact.” A massive new contract and the prospect of a title now convinced him to stay.
Mokhtar LeBild: “I am happy to continue down the path in Nashville. Our goal is to win titles and get people excited about football in the United States.”
His advisor Florian Jul on the back of the extension: “Of course, after Hani’s great season, there were many European clubs that would have liked to sign him. MLS is on the rise and Hani feels at home in the USA after two years. So, the change was Ultimately out of the question for him. He’s the face of Nashville and now he’s one of the highlights in the entire league.”
Mukhtar also follows relegation-threatened Hertha from USA: “I always follow the matches. I just keep my fingers crossed for Hertha until they finally get to where they belong in the long run.
