Here’s the announcement Thursday for crime lovers in Switzerland: SRF announced in a media statement that The Undertaker will be back. Mike Mueller (58) again returns as Luke Conrad in the full length feature film. Filming will begin in October of this year and the full crime event will be broadcast next year. The film was shot in Engadin.
With Blick, the actor and co-creator of the series and movie talked about the enormity of the pressure to celebrate a comeback with a successful format and reveal whether it will allow the unloved “undertaker” to grow again.
Mr. Mueller, with the end of Season 7 of “Bestatter” it was clear that the format would not return. Why the decision to make a movie now?
Mike Muller: During Season 7, director Marcus Fischer and I had the idea of making a movie as an epilogue. It took a while and the pandemic didn’t speed things up until we had the right book on the table and SRF, distributor and co-producers were convinced. Now we can go to the full throttle again.
What was the first thing you thought of when you were asked to reprise the role of Luke Conrad?
In a movie based on 40 episodes for TV, you can tell the story in a completely different way, even knowing that it’s really the end after that.
The Undertaker went without falling into the stakes and without making any noise – that is, when he was most beautiful. How big is the pressure to deliver another hit to the audience?
Oh, it’s always great. The film is expensive and there are no proven recipes. But without stress, I would lie in Lake Zurich all day anyway.
In an interview with Blick, you said that the beard was the hardest part of ‘The Undertaker’ for you: Did Luke Conrad come back without a beard, or do you bite the bullet?
Luke Conrad only comes with a beard, but I think he has a nicer beard. after every thing.
