Face recognition is one of the defining features of Surface computers. Users can sign in to their Surface devices right away. And to make the entire recognition system in the Surface Laptop Studio even better, Microsoft is rolling out an update for owners.
Microsoft is now releasing the Surface Laptop Studio January 2023 firmware update to improve Windows Hello facial recognition. Exact facial recognition improvements are not specified, which means we can’t conclude that users will experience faster logins after installing the update. However, the latest firmware version does not contain any new features or changes other than optimization.

January 2023 firmware update for Surface Laptop Studio
Like all previous Surface firmware updates, the January 2023 firmware will be rolled out in phases, meaning not everyone will get it on the same day. It may take about a week before it becomes available to everyone. It is also important to note that the latest firmware will be released for devices running the Windows 10 October 2020 Update, version 20H2 or later.
If you just got it on your Surface Laptop Studio, here are a few things to remember.
- Firmware updates cannot be uninstalled or rolled back to a previous version.
- If you install the latest update, you’ll also get any previous updates if your Surface doesn’t already have them. Only updates applicable to your Surface will be downloaded and installed.
- After installing the updates, restart your device to complete the installation process. To restart your device, select Started Then select power > Resumption.
