Microsoft confirms: Windows 10 will also get a new ‘feature update’

As Microsoft confirms with cumulative update KB5014666, Windows 10 with version 19045 will also receive a Feature Update. However, in all likelihood, Windows 10 22H2 will focus less on the feature set and much more on improvements and bug fixes as well as security updates.

Version 19045 is Windows 10 22H2

After installing the packages, which so far came without any new functionality, the system reports in the start menu System → Info Windows 10 22H2 Installer (OS Build 19045.1806).

Feature Update without new features

After the packages are installed, the new version 19045 and change to Windows 10 22H2 can be viewed in System Information.

However, no new features are expected as part of the official rollout. Even if the annual feature update is also due for Windows 10 with “22H2”, the new functionality is completely reserved for Windows 11.

The focus is on Windows 11

Microsoft will quietly roll out the update to Windows 10 22H2 via Windows Update, and feature updates to its predecessor, Windows 11, are no longer discussed at all on the internal software site.

Microsoft’s focus is now entirely on the upcoming release of Windows 11 22H2 and Windows 11 23H2 planned for fall 2023.
