Microsoft CEO Dee Templeton Joins OpenAI's Board of Directors – Bloomberg News – Jan 05, 2024 at 11:04 PM ET

Microsoft CEO Dee Templeton has joined OpenAI's board of directors as a non-voting observer, Bloomberg News reported on Friday, citing a person familiar with the matter.

The maker of ChatGPT made headlines in November when CEO Sam Altman was briefly removed from OpenAI's board and reinstated days later after more than 700 employees threatened to quit in solidarity and join forces with Microsoft.

Upon his return to his position, Altman said Microsoft will take a non-voting observer position on OpenAI's board.

The observer position means that a Microsoft representative can attend OpenAI board meetings and access confidential information, but Microsoft does not have voting rights on matters such as the election or selection of directors.

Templeton, who worked for 25 years at the tech giant, currently serves as the company's vice president of partnerships, technology and research operations, according to her LinkedIn profile.

According to the report, it has already started attending OpenAI board meetings.

OpenAI and Microsoft did not respond to Reuters' requests for comment.

OpenAI agreed to a partial reshuffle of the board that fired Altman. Brett Taylor, former co-CEO of Salesforce, and Larry Summers, former US Treasury Secretary, as well as Quora CEO and current board member Adam D'Angelo, will serve on the board.
