Former YB star Michel Aebischer is now a member of the FC Bologna squad. The 26-year-old reveals what makes a good Serie A and what his goals are.

Michel Aebischer has been playing for Serie A club Bologna for nearly a year and a half. Last season was successful for the 26-year-old: he not only went to the World Cup in Qatar with the national team. , also winning in Bologna and making 34 appearances on the field (1 goal, 1 assist) in all competitions. 20 minutes I talked to him.
Life and team in Bologna
“I liked it so much, at first I needed a little time to adjust,” says Aebisher. He also loves football – especially the one they play under coach and former footballer Thiago Motta. The Nati player explains: “It’s well-prepared, possession-oriented football. And not just defending like few other clubs.”

There will be a good mix of young and old in the squad, and the older stars around Marko Arnautovic will hold the squad together. “We have 17 nationalities on the team,” says Aebisher. How does the connection work? “In training everything is done in Italian, in the cabin everything is spoken.” He himself learned the language for the first time here in Italy.
The 26-year-old lives in the city, but speaks of the Emilia-Romagna region: “We have good weather, lots of sunshine, and good food and drink.” You could say: the Swiss love it.

He praised the Italian league. The fact that three Italian clubs have reached European club finals is an affirmation of quality for him. “I think the league has taken a step forward and moved away from Italian football in the past,” Aebisher explains. You don’t just stand behind and hit the balls forward. “Fiorentina is very attractive, and so is Inter Milan. The clubs reflect the quality of the league.” However, he does not believe that Inter will beat Manchester City in the Champions League. “Manchester is currently the best team in the world,” says Aebisher.

Aebischer made his Super League debut at the age of 19, after which he became the face of YB, winning four championship titles and one cup. A year and a half ago, he moved to FC Bologna – initially on loan before the club took up an option to buy for four million francs.

Aebisher never lost his realistic stance. He says he doesn’t have to walk around in designer clothes and that he put aside his first paycheck for tough times. Regarding his vacation plans, he says: «In Switzerland I will enjoy my time with family and friends. Then I’ll go to the sea somewhere. I haven’t booked yet.”

And then, what’s next for the new season? “Good question, of course you never know! But I like it at Bologna and I want to develop more here,” says Aibescher. Then the Nati player, who used to be a fan of Kaká, Mesut Ozil and Toni Kroos, adds: “The Bundesliga is of course always one of my goals. I don’t know if it’s today or tomorrow.”
