Meyer Burger begins production in the USA

Meyer Burger begins production in the USA

A strategic partnership with an American technology group is also being sought.

The company announced Tuesday that its new solar module factory in Arizona has met all testing criteria necessary to begin production. The solar cells needed to ramp up module production will initially be produced at the Thalheim, Germany, site. The solar cell factory in Colorado Springs is scheduled to start operating at a later date.

The exact timeline for starting solar cell production in the US is said to still depend on financing. Loan agreements are currently being negotiated with a major US bank and the goal is to conclude them by the middle of the third quarter. The company also expects export financing to be paid by a major German bank.

Strategic partnership

Mayer Berger also announced that negotiations on a strategic partnership with a “leading American technology group” have come a long way. The commercial contract has been negotiated “until it is ready for signing.” Here too, Mayer Berger expects to reach a binding agreement in the third quarter.

The company has also secured another purchase contract in the USA: a long-term contract with a new major customer is said to total 1.75 GW. The contract is for three years with an option to extend and will come into effect when solar cell production starts in Colorado.
