Mercedes gives high effort: after S-Class Electric EQS Comes with EQE Class E electric. However, electric models look more similar than their counterparts with corresponding combustion. For the 4.94-meter EQE, that means an evenly curved and teardrop-shaped design that leads to an arc from front to back.
Despite the elegant line, passengers sit a little higher than the E-Class due to the battery. One difference to the EQS is the tailgate: in the smaller EQE, the rear window is fixed; Under the trunk lid, the load capacity is 430 liters. The interior and equipment are also clearly dependent on EQS. The 1.41m wide screen is also available in EQE – but only as an optional extra. The same applies to automatic convenience doors. Air suspension and rear axle steering are also available in two variants upon request.
It has a range of 660 km
The first variant will be the Mercedes EQE 350 with 215 kW (292 hp) and 530 Nm. It is available in rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and can travel between 550 and 660 kilometers with a 90 kWh battery. The EQE pumps a maximum of 170 kW of electricity into the battery, which means it can charge a range of up to 250 kilometers in 15 minutes.
Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 with 761 hp
AMG will also go electric. Next year, the EQS will be launched as a sports version with 560 kW (761 hp) and a maximum torque of 1,020 Nm. However, this maximum power is only available with the optional AMG Plus package in race start mode. The base version of the AMG-EQS comes with 484 kW (658 hp) and 950 Nm. For comparison: the most powerful EQS currently has 385 kW (523 hp). The AMG Stromer accelerates to 100 km / h in 3.8 or 3.4 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 220 or 250 km / h. Range 580 km.
Visually, the sports version works without a fat spoiler. However, AMG does not do without its distinctive feature with vertical slats in the radiator grille (see photo with Blick author Martin A. Bartholdi). To this end, AMG has developed a special acoustic design for its Stromer, which can be heard indoors or out as required. Pricing and exact release date are not yet known.

The visual similarities between EQS and EQE are based on the same technology. Both cars are on the new platform of electric cars in the luxury and high-end class from Mercedes. This is why the Germans can launch an EQE soon after the EQS. “With the new EQE, we can quickly make high-tech solutions from our flagship electric EQS available to a larger group of buyers,” says Chief Development Officer Markus Schaeffer.
Launched in summer 2022
However, Mercedes does not want to break up its flagship car with its little brother, so it still needs a little patience. Just a year from now, in the summer of 2022, EQE will take to the streets. Accordingly, there are no prices yet. We think it could start at around 80,000 francs.
