Media: Becker released from custody in Great Britain
According to British reports, the 55-year-old, who has been in prison since April, will be transferred to Germany and will not have to serve the rest of his sentence. Becker benefits from a practice designed to ease pressure on overcrowded British prisons.
Becker was sentenced to two and a half years in prison. He was indicted in his ongoing bankruptcy proceedings since 2017. It is about not disclosing assets and hiding debts. Becker always contradicted it.
Recently there were reports from England that the 6-time Grand Slam winner may be deported to Germany before Christmas. According to British media reports, Becker has been unable to visit London, his adopted home since 2012. A three-time Wimbledon winner can apply for a residence permit as a guest only after his entire sentence has expired. (sid/calü)
