Marco Odermatt scares commentators in Aspen

Marco Odermatt has done it again. It made sports commentators – from all over the world – go crazy.

Odermatt yesterday won the second of two World Cup giant slalom races in Aspen, USA – just ahead of fellow Swiss Loic Millard. Accordingly, the emotions of sports commentators flared up again, as you can hear in the following video:

It was a true crime movie. After a near-fall at the start of the second round, many thought it was over, but then Odermatt turned up the heat. He increased his lead to more than five tenths by the end. The following Loïc Meillard and Alexander Steen Olsen could no longer approach the dominant Nidwalden. In the end, Odermatt won by 34 hundredths over his compatriot Millard.

Odermatt wins 12th straight giant slalom. Because of his mistake, the high bird didn't believe in victory anymore. After the race, he told SRF about the second run: “I took it all the way and risked everything at the bottom.” (msh/lzo)
