Train passengers in Great Britain must be prepared for long waiting hours: More than 50,000 employees will go on strike on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, according to the British Railway Union RMT. It was the largest strike in British railways in more than 30 years. On Tuesday, London underground workers also wanted to stop work 24 hours a day.
The reason for the industrial action was the failure of negotiations on a pay rise. According to the RMT, the union demanded a 7.1 percent wage increase in December due to high inflation. Criticism of the strike came from Transport Secretary Grant Shops: he said the union was “punishing millions of innocent people instead of quietly discussing the necessary reforms”.
