11-year-old Lislott from MCG in Gherden is the second best mathematical genius in Lower Saxony
Jordan.Math at school? Well, this is definitely not everyone’s favorite topic and it never was. For Lislott Schroeder it is. “I just enjoy math,” says the 11-year-old. So much fun that she now takes second place in the state competition at the Mathematical Olympiad in Göttingen.

A fifth grader from Matthias-Claudius-Gymnasium volunteered to compete. Not the first time. I’ve been involved since elementary school. She now had three hours in Göttingen to solve four tasks. “It didn’t take me that long,” she says. And I felt better after that. “But I didn’t think I’d come second,” she says. After all, there were a lot of nerds, Troy laughing. Moreover, she was not excited. “It wasn’t bad,” she says. The reward for good performance is a certificate and a medal.

Her interest in sports runs in the family. Her father is a math teacher. “Maybe that’s why,” she says. But it is by no means the case that math puzzles are constantly being solved. In particular, Licelot’s father described his daughter’s athletic proficiency as “quite amazing from a very young age”. But regardless, the fifth grader finds math quite simply easy. Much easier than English for example.

Anyway, Amelie’s girlfriend is an offshoot of Licelot’s athletic skills. “I’m not as good as them,” she admits. But she benefits from the knowledge of Lycelot. “She helps me out when I don’t know what to do anymore,” says the 11-year-old.
exceptional success
According to MCG instructor Fred Ritzer, the success of young Ronnenbergerin is extraordinary. “From 20 years of experience as a math teacher, I can say that such good results at the State Olympics are very rare in our school,” says Ritzer.
Math Olympiad is an individual competition conducted separately according to grade levels. In each of the four rounds a maximum of three to six tasks must be worked out, which above all require logical thinking, combination skills and creative use of mathematical methods. The tasks are arranged by grade level. The tasks of the first level must be solved by the participants at home. The second stage is conducted as an examination in schools. Based on the results of this test, we invite the best students in Lower Saxony to attend the state tour at the Mathematical Institute of the University of Göttingen.
