Convertibles, large 16-inch laptops, workstations and netbooks – the Lenovo ThinkPad portfolio is very diverse. It’s not easy deciding on a single model that earns the title of “Best ThinkPad of its Generation.” But it is not impossible either, if it is chosen according to the “best model for the largest number of users” criterion.
We will be listing the Lenovo ThinkPad Z13, ThinkPad X1 Carbon G10, ThinkPad T14 G3, and its thinner variant ThinkPad T14s G3. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon has the advantage of having a lighter case and better speakers—but the lack of an AMD option means: Inefficient Intel processors result in shorter battery life and fans tend to run more frequently.
The ThinkPad T14 G3 and T14s G3 are optionally available with AMD Ryzen 6000 and ThinkPad Z13 (Available on Amazon, affiliate link) based exclusively on AMD chips. The Z13 is also more compact than other ThinkPads, and it has better speakers than T-ThinkPads and a better touchpad. However, it is very limited in terms of connectivity, and the smaller 13.3-inch screen is not as comfortable to work with as the 14-inch screen.
That leaves the T Series: The ThinkPad T14 G3 has an RJ45 connection and an easily replaceable keyboard. But it lacks Thunderbolt or USB4, and there’s no optional OLED option.
In the end, the winner is: the ThinkPad T14s G3 AMD. This model, which we recently subjected to a detailed review, has hardly any weaknesses. It offers OLED (optional) and USB4, just as efficient Ryzen 6000 chips as the X1 Carbon lacks. And unlike the ThinkPad Z13, it has good connectivity.
It’s no coincidence that the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G3 AMD scores a very high score of 91% in our review: it’s the best ThinkPad laptop of the 2022 generation.
Even when I was in school, I was an avid reader of Notebookcheck tests. I finally joined the Notebookcheck team in 2016 with Hobby Test Reports and have been writing test reports and news articles ever since. My personal interest lies in classic laptops and especially business models. Technology should make life easier and make us work more efficiently, and good laptops are now a major tool for that. This is why laptop testing isn’t just for me, it’s my passion.
