King Charles’ coronation guest list has expanded

King Charles’ coronation guest list has expanded

According to a report, he wants to invite more guests than initially planned for his coronation in May. The Palace on Sunday said it was in talks with Westminster Abbey officials to expand capacity at the chapel, citing an inside source who said they hoped to “get a few more”. Earlier, there was talk of 2,000 invited guests – far smaller than the 8,000 guests at Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation 70 years ago.

In an effort to make his coronation on May 6 as inclusive and modern as possible, Charles, 74, plans to invite several representatives of charities and individuals representing today’s diverse Britain, the Telegraph reported. Royals and politicians from around the world are also on the guest list.

The “Telegraph” also reported at the weekend that Charles and his wife Camilla, 75, may choose a different, simpler carriage than the 260-year-old Golden State Carriage to get to Westminster Abbey.

According to the Royal Collection Trust, it has been used at every coronation since 1821, but Queen Elizabeth II once described it as too uncomfortable. However, according to the Telegraph, a carriage must be used on the return journey so that visitors can catch a glimpse of the streets.

According to the Times and Mail on Sunday, Camilla’s grandchildren will play a key role in the coronation, as well as Charles’ grandson George, nine, who will one day ascend the throne.

With the coronation, a new era dawns in England in May: this may also be reflected in Camilla’s name. Both The Telegraph and the Mail on Sunday, citing palace sources, said palace communications did not mention Charles’ wife, and that the royal diary could refer to “Queen Consort” (“King’s Consort”) and “Queen” (“Queen”. ยป). The latter title was previously reserved for Queen Elizabeth II, who died in September – although adding the first name, “Queen Camilla” is already spoken for.
