Kambundji thrillingly wins bronze in EM سباق

“Mujinga felt”

Blick: Ditaji Kambundji, you literally threw yourself in the medal in the last metres. intentionally?
Kambundji: Everyone wants to finish as fast as they can, just throw yourself out there. I did it intuitively. At first I didn’t even realize it was bronze. I just wanted to do a good race.

Was the Lane 8 start feature out of the hustle and bustle?
I was able to complete my race, and did my own thing. When you’re running outside, sometimes you don’t know where to stand. This is why it is not my favourite. I made something nice out of lane 8 today. This might change my mind about this track a little bit (laughs).

She had problems with falls at the World Junior Championships in Nairobi and at the World Indoor Championships this spring. Now everything went smoothly. How did you overcome this problem?
We looked at it, but I didn’t bother with it before the European Championships. There is always danger. There are 10 hurdles you have to cross before you reach the finish line.

Together with your sister Mujinja, you won a full set of medals in Munich.
that’s awesome. We share a room here. I saw her medals piled up in the room and thought, “It would be nice to add a third medal to that.”

Are you going to put that up front now?
yes. (Laugh).

How do you help?
Specifically: She styled my hair today (laughs). But it also helps me with many other things. Ask me at the crucial moment: “Do you have everything?” She is my older sister who can help me with many things.

They are faster than big sister. Mujinga was 24 when she won her first medal, and you were only 20.
This is very beautiful. I benefit greatly from her experience and everything she has built. I owe her a lot.
