Italy: Does Giorgia Meloni have a Nazi problem among the party's youth? -News

Sieg Heil shouts and related songs: Italy's Prime Minister has problems with her party's youth organization.

Meloni's party's youth organization is called “Gioventù Nazionale”: National Youth. The idea behind this youth organization is to develop those people who will later take responsibility.

But something else is clearly brewing: At a National Youth event, shouts of “Sage Hill” and fascist songs can be heard. In a shaky cell phone video recorded among members or sympathizers of the National Youth.

The video comes from online fanpage, which has already published extensive research. The method works with a hidden camera, that is, without the permission of those affected.

The fan page has collected a lot of material that is incriminating or even disturbing: in the excerpts of the published conversations, the Duce, i.e. Mussolini, is invoked. There is incitement against people from Africa, against Jews or the disabled. The fan page also has text messages that members of the National Youth sent to each other. These texts also paint the same picture.

The Long Silence by Georgia Meloni

A week ago, these online media published such clips or conversations for the first time in which Jews, the disabled, or people from Africa were defamed. Georgia Meloni has remained silent about these revelations. Only last night did she take a position: Anyone who harbors racist or anti-Semitic sentiments or feels nostalgia is in the wrong place in her party.

However, many wonder if Meloni was aware of this. A few months ago, she spoke highly of her youth organisation, Giovinto Nazionale. They were “fantastic,” she told her boys in January. Two of those “fantastic boys” resigned from their posts yesterday, a new fan page has revealed.

But the left-wing opposition wants more. People are demanding that Meloni’s youth organization be dissolved entirely. Or Meloni should now publicly describe herself as anti-fascist, something she has always refrained from doing. Many say the prime minister does not want to alienate people who love Mussolini.

Dangerous double game

But this could be dangerous, as journalist Beppe Severgnini analyzed yesterday on the TV channel “la 7”: The fact that Meloni refuses to call himself an anti-fascist will please a few thousand hardliners. But she risks losing millions of voters.

In Italy this is called “doppio forno”: someone heats two ovens. In German you would say melodie lavière. The latest one was in Brussels between Ursula von der Leyen and Hungarian Prime Minister Orban. So between the Christian Democrat right and the far right. Many questions remain unanswered.

Meanwhile, Melonie counterattacks and criticizes the fan page: sneaking into parties is a scandal and only happens in dictatorships. In fact, the method is questionable. But Giovanto Nazionale is an organization affiliated with the Italian government party and also receives tax money. What happens there is of public interest and relevance.
