There were worldwide disruptions to online services Facebook and Instagram on Tuesday. US parent company Meta said that since 4:30pm CET, users around the world had difficulty accessing Facebook, Instagram and Threads. Switzerland was also affected. About two hours later, Meta reported that the disruption had ended.

The Downdetector portal, where users can report crashes, recorded up to 580,000 reports for Facebook and up to 92,000 reports for Instagram. Threads, which launched in 2023 as a competing service to X (formerly Twitter), also appears to have been affected. There seem to be no problems with the Whatsapp service, which also belongs to Meta.

According to reports from several users on Facebook, login fails when entering their user data. Your Instagram homepage is no longer updated. It was also notable that the number of outages reported on Downdetector decreased significantly from 5:30pm CET.
