Daniil Medvedev easily reached the third round of the Indian Wells ATP 1000. The Russian world number one beat Czech Tomas Mack 6:3, 6:2.

Against qualifying Czech Machak (ATP 158), Medvedev gave a break in the first round to make it 4:2 to win the set. After a double break to make the score 4:1 in the second round, the match was decided and after 71 minutes the Russian used his first match point.
In the 16th final, Medvedev, who had a goodbye in the first round, met the Frenchman Gael Monfils (ATP 28).
Nadal is close to leaving
Rafael Nadal qualified for the third round with great difficulty. The Spaniard was behind his training partner Sebastian Korda (USA/ATP 38) 6:2, 1:6, 2:5 before turning things around and winning the third set 7:6 (7:3).
Mallorca improved their annual record to 16:0 victories. His next opponent is Brett Daniel Evans (ATP 29).

After his victory, Nadal announced that he would relinquish the ATP 1000 Championship in Miami. The 35-year-old Grand Slam record holder said he wants to give his body and especially his left foot, which underwent surgery last year, more time to heal.
