Xherdan Shaqiri explains his move: “I had a feeling it was the right moment to go there.” “The most important thing for me was the project, which is why I’m in Chicago right now,” he says in an interview with SRF.
The exceptional talent got off to a good start with his new employer. The Chicago Fire is currently third in the MLS with eight points from four games. Shaq has already contributed with a goal.

The Swiss player 100 times feels at home in his new home. “Americans love the stars, but there is no envy. That’s the first thing I liked here.”

The level in Major League Soccer seems to suit Shaqiri, too. “It is completely incomparable to European football. But it is not to be underestimated here – but a lot of people do.”
The league is getting better and better, because new big stars move abroad every year. “Football is a bit unruly, but very sporty.”
The 30-year-old’s focus is now on the Swiss national team. And coach Murat Yakin’s team meets England at Wembley Stadium, which sold out all tickets on Saturday. Followed by the friendly match against Kosovo on Tuesday. Two special games not only for Sheridan Shaqiri.
