Imagine it's a relegation battle and an important player suddenly refuses to play in the starting lineup. This is exactly what GC pro Francis Momoh is supposed to be doing currently. Blue Sports says what's behind it.

no time? Blue Sports sums you up

  • Blue Sport has learned that GC striker Francis Momoh recently refused to play in the starting lineup against Lucerne.
  • He clearly wants to prevent an automatic one-year extension to his contract with the Hoppers.
  • Let's see if he starts tonight against Yverdon?

In the summer of 2019, Momoh moved to GC from Nigerian Premier League club Heartland FC. Initially used in the U21 team, he has long since become a member of the professionals. Momoh played 73 times for the Hoppers' first team, scoring 11 goals and setting up 10 others.

In the winter, there were rumors about the trainee striker, and there was talk of a move from GC to city rivals FCZ. But nothing happened, the 23-year-old Nigerian is still wearing the GC jersey. But to what extent?

Momoh wants to prevent an automatic contract extension

Against Lucerne, Marco Schliebaum moved his side up just two places compared to the 3-2 win at Stade Lausanne Ouchy, the first complete success after nine games without a win. Maxime Pascuzzi replaced the suspended Christers Toppers and Felipe de Carvalho played in place of Momoh. The last of the starting eleven could not have been rotated by Schällibaum.

As Blue Sport has learned, Momoh is said to have simply refused to play in the starting lineup in Lucerne last Friday. This is in the midst of the relegation battle. Reason: Momoh's contract with GC would have been automatically extended if he had started from the beginning. He finally came on as a substitute in the 68th minute when the score was 1-0 and was on the pitch when the late goal was conceded to make it 1-1.

It will be interesting to see if Francis Momoh starts today's home match against Yverdon. The match starts at 8.30pm – you can watch it live on blue Sport from 8pm.
