It’s that time again in the middle of May: The 2023 IIHF World Ice Hockey Championships is coming up from May 12-May 28. Thousands of ice hockey fans will make pilgrimages to the ice hockey stadiums in Finland and Latvia and millions will be watching the Ice Hockey World Championship 2023 on TV and live.

Ice Hockey World Cup 2023 on TV and Live: Germany National Team Matches Live
Unlike football, the Ice Hockey World Championships are held every year. In the 2022 World Cup, also held in Finland, the host country has been crowned world champions. For Germany, it was all over in the quarter-finals against the Czech Republic. National coach Harold Kress’ team is not a big favorite. She is ninth in the world rankings.
The German national team is back to the start again this year. In Group A of the preliminary round, Germany will face the national teams of Sweden, Finland, USA, Denmark, Austria-Hungary and France. The group matches will be held in Tampere, Finland. Group B with Latvia, Switzerland, Canada, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Kazakhstan, Norway and Slovakia is scheduled to be played in Riga, Latvia.
The 2023 Ice Hockey World Championships are here on TV and live
The IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships have been televised and broadcast live for several years on Sport1. Also this year, the tournament will be broadcast on Sport1. This year, the broadcaster will show all the matches of the German national team on free TV as well as some selected matches from the tournament, as well as the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. There are 30 live games in total.
All other matches of the tournament will be shown on the paid channel Sport1 +. So viewers need a subscription for that. Sport1 and Sport1+ can be received via TV, live broadcast on the Internet or the ProSieben streaming portal Joyn. ARD, ZDF and Eurosport do not own any television rights to the Ice Hockey World Championship.
However, Sport1 is not the only provider broadcasting the Ice Hockey World Championships. The live broadcast service Telekom MagentatTV and MagentaSport also show the championship matches, that is, all the matches of the German national team, as well as all the matches of the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals.
