  • The Czech Republic beat Norway 2-0 thanks to two goals in the first third and are in the knockout stage of the 2023 Ice Hockey World Championships in Finland and Latvia.
  • Hosts Latvia give Kazakhstan 7 goals and are celebrating their fourth consecutive win.
  • In Group A, the United States (3-0 against Denmark) and Sweden (4-0 against France) secured their places in the quarter-finals.
  • Group B

Norway 0-2 Czech Republic – Thanks to the fourth victory in the fifth match, the Czech Republic secured a ticket to the quarter-finals. Two goals in the first third were enough for the twelve-time world champion to succeed against outside Norway. And former Ambri player Dominik Kobalek gave the Czech Republic a double advantage in the 13th minute. Shortly before the end of the middle third, Jacob Flick made the final score after a fine pass from Michal Kempeny. Norway met the favorites at eye level from the start and scored more shots on goal (27:21). Thanks to the Czech victory, Switzerland and defending champions Canada also qualified early in the quarter-finals.

Kazakhstan 0-7 Latvia – 24 hours after the shock victory over Slovakia, Kazakhstan is back on the field. The quiet dream came to an end in the quarter-finals for Kazakhstan after an applause against the hosts. Latvia are six points clear of Slovakia after winning their fourth in a row but have already played six matches. If the Slovakians beat Slovenia and Norway as expected, the Balts need at least one point due to a direct loss at the end of Tuesday’s preliminary round against Switzerland.

Group A

USA 3-0 Denmark – 5 games, 5 wins, 15 points: The USA kept a clean slate in Tampere. But the victory over the Danes had to be endured: Cutter Gauthier could only open the score with a powerful play in the 50th minute. Alex Toch (56) and Rocco de Grimaldi (60 / inside the empty goal) put the lid on it. After the United States did not lose a single point in the fifth match either, the ticket to the quarter-finals could no longer be taken from last year’s World Cup fourth place.

Austria 1-3 Finland – The Finnish team also got a ticket to the quarter-finals. The defending champion and Olympic champion never missed a beat against Austria and won 3-1. Just a minute later, Kasperi Kapanen gave the two teams the advantage. Ambri-Biota’s Dominic Zwerger equalized a few minutes later to make it 1-1, but Ante Sumela restored the lead in the eighth minute. With about two minutes left, Ahti Oksanen scored to make it 3-1.

Sweden 4-0 France – Sweden also secured early entry into the quarter-finals on the fifth day of the World Cup. Tre Kronor beat France 4-0. The Scandinavians, who had been waiting for a medal since their victory over Switzerland in the 2018 World Cup final, scored all of their goals in the first half. Fabian Zetterlund of the San Jose Sharks became the man of the match with a brace.
