Joel Henry was checked here by Matt Kniss, but he scored the only Swiss goal against the United States to make the score 1-1.
The Swiss U-20 team suffered their second defeat at the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in Edmonton, defeating the USA 7-1 in the second match.
Immediately before the World Cup in a test match, the Swiss had no chance against the US team. This time they tied 1-1 until the 32nd minute, but conceded four goals in the last eight minutes of the second half. Six of the seven U.S. targets to the bitter end counted by the U.S. first line of attack. Joel Henry (GCK Lions) scored Switzerland’s goal to make it 1-1 with a superb individual performance.
The Swiss juniors will play Germany and Austria in the next few days to qualify for the quarter-finals. Defender Noah Delemont (Biel) was the 26th player and the last player to be scored in the tournament before the match against the United States. Joel Marchon (Zug) had to start his journey home prematurely as the Swiss surplus.
Next up for Switzerland early Sunday morning (Switzerland time) against Germany. (SDA)
