You are no longer looking for charging stations because the car charges while driving. To this end, Holcim is collaborating with German startup Magment. The partnership aims to improve Magment technology for magnetizable concrete for road surfaces, with which electric vehicles can be wirelessly charged while driving, Holcim announced Thursday.
This concrete-based solution, known as “inductive charging,” reduces the need for charging stations and saves time. This technology is made possible by magnetized concrete made of cement and magnetic particles from recycled electronic scrap. It was jointly developed by the research and development teams at Holcim and Magment.
Tests are already underway in the US
This technology is currently being tested by researchers at Purdue University in Indiana, USA. Another application under development is the electrification of industrial floors to charge robots and forklifts while they are in operation. (SDA/cny)
