Now the Germans are dreaming big: after beating Kazakhstan 5-4, the German team wants to win the group against us in the World Cup in Finland on Tuesday (11.20 am). AHL professional Leon Gawanke said with confidence: “We have shown that we can defeat Switzerland. We don’t have to be impressed. Excessive respect is also not good.”
Against Switzerland, it’s about number one. No German team has ever started from the top of the table in a World Cup quarter-final. Manitoba defender Moss added: “We’re always 100 per cent excited against them and really hurt them last year. If we hit everything, we’ll come off the ice as winners.”
At last year’s World Cup in Riga, Germany beat Switzerland 3-2 in the quarter-finals after a penalty shootout. Gawanke only made it possible to extend the match with his goal to become 2:2 shortly before the end of normal time. “It was one of the greatest goals of my career,” Gawanke said, adding, “I hope after the World Cup I will be able to look at a new goal.” (AFP/MAM)
