The cliffs set ablaze over Newlands on Sunday, destroying the famous Rhodes Memorial Restaurant and spreading further towards the university, the city and the university announced on Twitter on Sunday.
More than 120 firefighters and five helicopter crews equipped to fight the fires fought for hours against the flames. Two firefighters were injured during the operation.
The university campus was also affected
