According to his ministry, British Foreign Secretary Dominic Robb wants to meet with his Japanese counterpart, Toshimitsu Modeki, who has been invited to London for more than two years to attend the first private meeting of G7 ministers – as well as representatives from India, Australia and South Korea.
The traditional “special relationship” between the British and the United States should not be overlooked: US Secretary of State Anthony Blingen was one of the first colleagues to meet on Monday. It deals with trade issues and current developments in China, Afghanistan and Iran.
In addition to Great Britain and Germany, the G7 countries include France, the United States, Canada, Italy and Japan. This year the UK is hosting the G7 summit in Cornwall in mid-June. The British government has said the meeting of previous foreign and development ministers was a great opportunity for one to renew individual diplomacy.
Therefore, the agenda includes issues such as fair access to vaccines, global educational goals for girls, climate change and measures to prevent famine and food shortages. In addition, Russia’s latest weapons on the border with Ukraine may be discussed. US Secretary of State Blinken is scheduled to visit Ukraine following a meeting in London.
