Golf – McIlroy makes a mistake: DeChambeau wins the US Open for the second time – Sports

Pinehurst (dpa) – Bryson DeChambeau won the US Open for the second time in his career, relegating Northern Irish golf star Rory McIlroy to second place by one shot. The 30-year-old American and four-time major champion stumbled in the final lanes and ensured tension until the end.

McIlroy lost a two-shot lead on the final five holes and finished the tournament on 275 strokes after a round of 69. DeChambeau shot a round of 71 to win his second US Open after previous success in 2020. He made his money from the controversial LIV-funded tour Saudi Arabia. McIlroy is awaiting the fifth major victory of his career since 2014.

That's how it went for the Germans

Stefan Jager shot a round of 72 on the tough par 70 course in North Carolina on the final day. He finished the US Open tied for twenty-first. Things went a little better for former tournament winner Martin Kaymer on day four: one day after a round of 77, he finished a round of 73.

With 13 strokes over par, he finished tied for 64th place. Ten years ago, Kaymer was the only German to win the US Open at Pinehurst Golf Course No. 2, thus claiming the second and final major title of his career. In 2022, like DeChambeau, he joined the LIV Tour.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler from the USA, who has recently played brilliantly, is only 41st. 48-year-old American superstar Tiger Woods missed the cut after just two days and was eliminated early.
