KDE Plasma styled for a while now issue Ho, the GNOME project now also wants to collect telemetry data in order to improve the program in the long run.

For this purpose, developer Vojtech Stanek has developed an app called as part of an internship at Red Hat GNOME information collection chest. Packages are already available for various distributions such as Fedora, Ubuntu, Arch Linux, and openSUSE Removal.

The program currently compiles and transmits, among other things:

  • Hardware information, including manufacturer and model.
  • Various system settings, such as workspace configuration and which sharing features are enabled.
  • Application information, eg b. Your installed and favorite apps.
  • What GNOME Shell Extensions Are Installed and Activated?

The transmitted data is anonymous and does not contain any personal information. Before sending, all telemetry data is listed and the user must actually consent to the submission.
