Brandenburg Economy Minister Jörg Steinbach (SPD) has shown himself confident that US electric car maker Tesla can get environmental approval for the plant in Grunheide near Berlin.
When asked, he said, “From the Ministry of Economy’s point of view, there are no identifiable reasons for refusing the permit at the moment.” Steinbach had told Tagspiegel on Wednesday that he hopes to start production in the fourth quarter of 2021, if “something unexpected” happens anymore. Tesla has shown in its previous application process that everything will be done to remove obstacles to approval.
He cited reduced water requirements as an example. However, environmental groups are critical of the project. The approval process was delayed by the state of Brandenburg because Tesla submitted a new application to the automaker, including a battery plant.

Production was originally scheduled to start in July, but Tesla now expects the end of 2021. (With dpa)
