  • A Swiss couple is stranded in Bangkok due to a delayed flight.

  • Since all flights to Switzerland are full, they don’t know yet when they can return.

  • Problem for the people of Winterthur, they have to work this week.

EA * (29) from Winterthur and his partner are currently in Bangkok cut off. On Sunday afternoon, the couple wanted to fly from Krabi to Switzerland via Bangkok after their vacation in Thailand. “Due to technical problems at Krabi Airport, our Thai Airways plane could not take off for hours,” said the 29-year-old. “Of course, when we arrived in Bangkok around 4 am, our connecting flight was already gone.”

At the airline’s ticket office, the couple wanted to inquire about their options. But they weren’t alone in the switch. “Hundreds of people lined up to speak to the clerk at the only open desk. The atmosphere was tense and hostile.” After a long wait, the couple are shocked: “We were told at the desk that the first available flight would not return to Switzerland until March 12th.”

Not an option for A: “My partner should have been back at work on Monday. I’m going back to work on Tuesday.” The 29-year-old’s employer has informed him that he will have to give up his remaining vacation days for the extra days he is now spending in Thailand. The couple then left the airport on Monday morning and checked into a hotel in Bangkok. Now we are waiting for the airline to contact us. But we have to go home urgently.”

“Try to get those affected to Switzerland as quickly as possible.”

According to Thai Airways, there are six Swiss nationals currently stranded in Bangkok. “We deeply regret the circumstances and are trying to get the affected people back to Switzerland as soon as possible,” says Nandor Hammermler, Sales Director in Switzerland. But this is difficult now. On Monday, flights were fully booked with all airlines. Many planes will also be filled in the coming days.”

Thai Airways plans to fly those affected to Zurich by Wednesday at the latest. In the meantime, passengers should be accommodated in Bangkok hotels. “We are in contact with the affected passengers.” Hammermüller said Thai Airways would pay the extra costs.
