3 Switzerland and 1 Switzerland qualify for the second preliminary round of the French Open in Paris on Tuesday.
Susan Bandicci (WTA 190), Joan Zuger (WTA 217) and Simona Walter (WTA 212) qualified for the women’s main board at Roland Garros in the second round.
The 23-year-old Bandecchi easily defeated Australian Ellen Perez (WTA 222) 6:4, 6:2. Likewise, Züger only needed two sets to beat American Asia Muhammad (WTA 147) 7:5, 6:3.
Walter had to make up for the group’s deficit against Hannah Chang (WTA 269) of the US and won 6:7 (4:7), 6:1, 6:4 over two hours later. Elena En Albon (ATP 119) failed in the first qualifying round. The 23-year-old lost to Britain’s Yoriko Miyazaki (WTA 242) 3:6, 3:6.
Ritschard turns the game
For the men, the only Swiss had to fight like Walter: Zurich’s Alexander Richard (ATP 204), despite a poor start, beat Frenchman Laurent Locoli (ATP 279) 2:6, 6:4, 6:4.
