Berlin (AFP) – Bayern Munich’s Malik Tillmann will not play for Germany in the future.
The 19-year-old striker was not included in the national under-21 football team squad for the European Championship qualifiers against Hungary (3 June) and in Poland (7 June 2022). Coach Antonio de Salvo has now confirmed that Tillman will play for the United States, his father’s home.
“We regret Malik’s decision and it surprised us very much,” de Salvo (42) told Kicker https://www.sueddeutsche.de/sport/. He put a lot of confidence in him and gave him training for matches. We have also been in intense communication about his prospects up to the first national team.”
Malik Tillmann, born in Nuremberg, brother of professional Timothy Fürth (23), had already played two games for the USA in the U-15s before playing for all U-teams in the German Football Association and finally also played four games for the U-21 team.
A change is possible because Tillmann has yet to complete an international match with Germany. In the Bundesliga, Tillmann played four matches with German champions Munich and in the first round of the DFB Cup where he scored a goal against Bremer SV (12-0).
