Mario Gavranovic announces his retirement from the national team.
“Dear national football team, after more than 11 years, it is time to end my career with the national team.” With these words, Mario Gavranovic announced his international resignation via Instagram. This is two months before the Winter World Cup finals in Qatar.
Ticino, who currently plays for Kayserspor, made 41 appearances for Switzerland and scored 16 goals. “I am proud that I was allowed to wear this shirt and for everything we have done as a team in recent years.”
Not Forgotten: His 3:3 goal against France
He experienced baptism of fire in March 2011 against Bulgaria. He scored his first goals in the national jersey in August 2012 against Croatia. Gavranovic scored Switzerland’s most important goal in June 2021 in the round of 16 against France to make the score 3-3, making extra time possible. Later in the match, he also succeeded in a penalty shootout.
