Football – Frankfurt: I can hardly hope for a place in the international league – Sport

Gelsenkirchen (dpa) – After a 2-2 draw at Schalke 04, Eintracht Frankfurt have little hope of qualifying for the European Cup via the Bundesliga.

“Maybe it wasn’t enough to qualify for the league,” team captain Sebastien Rode said after the difficult match. Eintracht had initially turned into a 0:1 deficit, but then had to accept a draw in the final stage.

“If you don’t give such results, it’s not enough for Europe in the league,” said sporting director Markus Kroch. Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp also doesn’t think qualification via the league is a possibility, but he also said: “So much has happened in football, why don’t things go some way next week?”

Eighth-placed Frankfurt are two points behind sixth-placed Bayer Leverkusen. With a win over Borussia Mönchengladbach, the Rhinelanders can already push off the elusive side this Sunday. Like Bayer 04, Wolfsburg in seventh place is two points ahead of SGE.

Frankfurt can also qualify for international acts via the DFB Cup. The Hessian side will meet RB Leipzig in the final on June 3 and will reach the Europa League as winners.
