After collapsing on the pitch – Eriksen’s condition was stable
Danish player Christian Eriksen collapses on the field
During the match between Denmark and Finland, Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen fell on the field. UEFA announced that the 29-year-old was in a “stable” condition.
Halfway through the match against Finland, Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen collapses unconscious. Doctors rush to fight for the 29-year-old’s life. An eerie silence fell on the court, crying ZDF expert Per Mertesacker in the studio.
DrDenmark players circled Christian Eriksen to protect him from sight. They put their hands in front of their faces in shock, the Finnish national team wrapped their hands, and no sound could be heard in the Copenhagen stadium as doctors fought for Christian Eriksen’s life.
The midfielder collapsed on the field just before the break in the 43rd minute. He wanted to throw himself into the Finnish half and collapsed. It seems that the referee and the players immediately became aware of the gravity of the situation because Eriksen is no longer conscious. Doctors immediately rushed over and began to put pressure on the 29-year-old’s chest.

ZDF cut the broadcast after a few minutes and moved into the studio, where expert Per Mertesacker burst into tears. “My thoughts are with the Eriksen family. One can’t help but think of a human now. We should all do it. It’s the only thing we can all do now,” Mertesacker said.
The pictures from the stadium are horrific. Again and again, doctors begin to perform chest compressions in the presence of the Danish players. After a few minutes, Eriksen’s colleagues were able to leave the scene. Paramedics protected the Inter Milan player from sight with the Finnish flag.

After a few minutes, it was clear that the game could no longer continue. UEFA decided to boycott the match. Because of the dramatic incident, it is unreasonable to start the game again.
After several minutes on the grass, Eriksen was taken off the field on a stretcher. His teammates ran away in tears and formed a screen as a team. Spectators in the stadium were asked through loudspeakers to remain in their seats and not leave the stadium. “We have no information. The players are in the catacombs. I can’t say anything myself because I’m in shock,” ZDF commentator Bella Rethy said.

Eriksen was immediately taken to the hospital. After anxious minutes, UEFA gave a clear statement and tweeted: “The player has been taken to a hospital and settled there.” As the Danish Football Association explained: “Christian Eriksen is awake and is in Reichs Hospital for further examinations.”
Eriksen is the star of the Danish national team. The midfielder moved from Tottenham Hotspur to Inter Milan for €27 million in 2020. That year he became the Serie A champion with Inter, and Eriksen scored 36 goals in 109 international matches with Denmark.
Evening match between Belgium and Russia (9pm, ZDF and In the live WELT bar) does not appear to be affected by the dramatic events. UEFA published the lineup of the two teams an hour before kick-off in St. Petersburg, which speaks of kick-off.
