Frankfurt/Main (dpa) – In the middle of the German night, the national football team plays its second test international match on its trip to America.
On October 17 at 8:00 p.m. local time at Lincoln Financial Stadium in Philadelphia, National Coach Hansi Flick’s selection will meet Gold Cup winners Mexico. So the kick-off will be at 02:00 am German time on October 18th. This was announced by the German Football Association on Tuesday.
First stop: Connecticut, USA
The match against the Mexicans is the second international match in the foreign trip of the DFB team. On October 14 in Hartford, they will face hosts USA, who will host the 2026 World Cup along with Mexico and Canada. This game will start at 3:00 PM local time and therefore 9:00 PM German time.
The national team flies to America on October 9, just one day after the end of the seventh day of the Bundesliga match. At first I trained in Foxboro on the home ground of the NFL’s New England Patriots. Just two days after returning to Germany, the Bundesliga continues in the eighth round.
The last duel in the 2018 World Cup
The last time the national team played against Mexico at the 2018 World Cup. In the first group match there was a 0-1 draw at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow – the beginning of the debut of the failed tournament at that time as the defending champion.
For Flick, the games in the US are two more tests on the recently difficult path towards Euro 2024. Before that there are still matches on September 9 (8.45pm / RTL) in Wolfsburg and on September 12 (9pm) in Dortmund against Vice world champion France. The national team has only won one match this year, beating Peru 2-0. After disappointing performances in June against Ukraine (3:3), in Poland (0:1) and against Colombia (0:2), Flick came under heavy criticism.
Two more friendlies in November
This year, after the long-distance trip in October, there will be two test matches in November. According to reports, Turkey and Austria are the rivals. The draw for the EM group’s competitors will take place on December 2nd in Hamburg.
