Two people in Afghanistan were punished with 35 lashes each over allegations of adultery. The Supreme Court said the punishment was carried out on Thursday in the capital, Kabul. This is the second known skin condition within a week. There was no talk of public flogging.

On Tuesday, a man was flogged on suspicion of homosexual acts in western Farah province.

Stoning as a punishment for adultery

The Taliban seized power in Afghanistan again in August 2021. They are running the country in a very authoritarian manner. Since the end of 2022, Islamists have repeatedly caused international criticism through public punishments and executions.

Last weekend, top Taliban leader Haibatullah Ashundsada promised the full implementation of Islamic law in Afghanistan. In an audio message, he specifically mentioned punishments for adultery such as stoning and public flogging.
