Ricardo Rodriguez has been an integral part of the Swiss national team for years. He was also named club captain.

Since making his debut in 2011, Ricardo Rodriguez has 84 caps for Switzerland. The 30-year-old is also at left-back under Murat Yakin. First of all, of course, because the Torino player is consistently performing well. The fact that Rodriguez has practically no competition for this position certainly plays into his hands.

For me, this is not a huge change.

Although he didn’t want to leave it that way. “At the beginning of my time in the national team, I was definitely competitive. Other players can also take this attitude. I always try to do my best, always,” he said as part of the build-up to the start of the European Championship qualifiers.

Rodriguez is also a regular fixture at his current club FC Torino as captain on the left wing. However, he mainly plays in a back three there, while national team coach Yakin relies on a back four.

However, for the veteran Rodriguez, this does not play a major role: “I have been playing in the defense four in the national team for years, I can do it now. And for me it is not a big change anymore.
