First after the conviction at Olympique Lyon

sWorld champion Jerome Boateng made his Olympic debut in Lyon. The defender came on Sunday with his new team in Ligue 1 to lose 3-1 (1-0) against Racing Strasbourg. Boateng was replaced after a good hour. The goals of Lyon’s second win this season were scored by Moussa Dembele (8), Jason Denayer (64) and Lucas Paqueta (87). Habib Diallo scored for Strasbourg from a penalty kick (90 + 7).

Boateng, 33, signed a two-year contract with the French Ligue 1 club at the start of the month. In the team of former Leverkusen Bundesliga coach Peter Boss, the defender must bring his experience to stabilize the defence. Boateng, who was cheered by the fans, played hard but saw a yellow card in the 83rd minute after a foul.

Since Boateng’s contract with record champions FC Bayern Munich expired on June 30, he has been allowed to sign as a clubless player even after the transfer deadline in France.

Boateng recently made headlines as he was sentenced to a €1.8 million fine by the Munich District Court for assaulting his ex-girlfriend. Boateng defender Kai Walden has demanded acquittal, and the professional soccer player has denied the allegations.

For Lyon, it was the second consecutive victory after a false start to the season. The former series champion occupies seventh place with eight points from five matches, seven points behind Paris Saint-Germain, the leader in the standings.
